June 2015 Empties

Well it looks like I am finally able to get around to writing this post so I can share my June empties with everyone. I wanted to start doing this for a few reasons.

1) I constantly receive questions about what I am using or if I like a certain product.

2) I wanted to create a board for products I have used. I am a fan of Pinterest for this option since I am a VERY visual person. Come with me to the dark side; I have cookies.

3) Finishing a product gives me time to decide if I love it, like it, or hate it!

Now onto the good stuff. DRUMROLL PLEASE!!!!!

June 2015 empties

I know a few of you are looking at this photo & wondering how a Lush product ended up in the mix. It’s Okay!

I just love to try products from all over the world (including the United States).

Lush Cosmetics Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water

Lush toner

Lush is a company that specializes in all natural ingredients & is known for taking a stand against animal testing. That’s a win in my book. They even provide a label that shows who made the product & when it was done. I bought this while I was waiting for another toner to arrive from South Korea. I did not want the typical Western toner that is full of alcohol so I searched for products that would be kind to my face. The smell is very herbal, but not completely overpowering.

***WARNING***  It has an extremely thick consistency for something that is meant to be sprayed directly on your face. I jumped a mile the first time I tried it. After that I switched to the cotton ball method & my face loved me for it.

Lush breath of fresh air tonerSee the label I mentioned? As excited as I was to see a personal touch I was really creeped out by a random face staring at me. Had to turn the poor guy around.

As much as I liked the toner I don’t think I will repurchase. There is nothing wrong with the product, but in a nature versus science type of world my skin gravitates towards science. I think I like to mix the best of both worlds.

Shara Shara Green Oasis Lifting Eye Cream

Shara Shara eye cream

I received this eye cream courtesy of Memebox. At one point I was afraid to order anything from them because Shara Shara was in all of their boxes! This is the first eye cream I have used since I switched from Estee’ Lauder. While I loved their products I can’t say my wallet felt the same way.

Using an eye cream makes a huge difference for me. I always joke that I am cute by Asian beauty standards. Aegyo? Check. Eye smile? Check. Unfortunately this also means that my eyes can appear puffy if I am not careful. Shara Shara is on the lower end of the Korean skincare scale, but I still think that it may be better than some of the U.S. drugstore brands. This is another item I would not repurchase, but I would rather use a cheap eye cream than none at all.

Shara Shara  Black Bear Miracle Capsule Cream

Shara Shara Black bear

Look it’s more Shara Shara! This is from the Memebox X Soothing Sista collaboration. I really liked this box so I decided to give this cream a chance. Even though it says cream it is a clear lightweight gel so don’t let the name fool you. Since I live in a hot & humid climate this product didn’t leave my skin feeling sticky or like I was walking around with a mask. I was able to use this product twice a day without any issues. I would definitely repurchase again in the future.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil

The Face Shop Rice cleansing oil

This is a repeat purchase for me so obviously I love it. I was drawn to this as soon as I saw the word rice. LOL I used this as part of the double cleansing method. It is amazing with make up removal. At first it seemed very strange to put oil on my face, but once I saw the results I was sold. It’s such a gentle way to remove make up, dirt, oil, etc. that I really dislike harsh foam cleansers. I will more than likely repurchase this in the future. I also love the fact that The Face Shop has stores here in Texas so I can visit in person. All in all it wasn’t a bad month. I would repurchase two out of four products.

Have you tried any of these products yet? Which one is your favorite?

Coconut Oil Beauty Hack

Let’s be honest here. Chances are by now you’ve heard of the do-it-yourself beauty treatments AKA beauty hacks. I’m sure you have all seen the infamous Pinterest fails too! While I am usually skeptical of diy projects I had to try the coconut oil hair mask. My poor hair is in desperate need of some L-O-V-E. It’s oily at the roots & dry at the ends. To top it off I deal with crazy waves. I know you’re supposed to love your natural hair, but who doesn’t want to tame their mane?

Helpful Tip – I highly recommend wearing an old shirt or an article of clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.

*Don’t be alarmed at my before photo.*

I told you it was all over the place!

Coconut oil hair mask

This is the coconut oil I used. I found it at my local grocery store. You do not need to heat it up beforehand. The heat from your hands will help the coconut oil melt while you are applying it to your hair. Now I decided to put my hair in a ponytail and only applied the coconut oil to the length of my hair. Afterwards my hair was placed in a bun so I could keep everything in place.

Once my hair was full of coconut oil goodness I decided to apply heat via my handy dandy blow dryer! Some people sleep with these masks or leave them alone, but I do not have the patience for either of those methods. The purpose of the heat was to allow the hair follicles to open up so the coconut oil could go to work!!! I used the low heat setting for ten minutes. After that I left the mask on for 50 more minutes. In total I left my mask on for  one hour.

Now it was time for me to rinse. It’s a simple process. This was all I did:

*Rinse coconut oil from hair

*Partial air dry/partial blow dry

I decided than when I washed my hair that I wanted to give it a little boost. I used the Keratin Smooth line from TRESemme` that I am a huge fan of.

Here is what the end result looked like. Drumroll puh-lease……..

Doesn’t that look amazing? I know I still have split/dead ends that I need to cut off, but I am so happy with the end result.

What a difference! I am so thrilled to share this with all of you.

Have you tried this beauty hack before? What others have worked for you?
